Colette; Hazel....

I won a prize!
The lovely Jane held a giveaway on her blog and I won some gorgeous Robert Kaufman Railroad Denim from the lovely Village Haberdashery...
Ooh and it is lovely...after my excitement at wining I then had a bit of a panic thinking oh no I've chosen a pattern that wont work with denim..what was ai thinking! but it's lightweight for denim, more of a quilting cotton I'd say so it's actually perfect for the dress I had in mind...the Colette patterns Hazel.
Even thoguh this is obviously a little summer sun dress I thought it would work out to be a cute pinafore type dress to wear over a top and tights. The way the bodice is cut is crying out for some directional patterns too so the stripes are perfect, and here's my finished version...

Ooh stripes+camera=headache, here's a more eyeball friendly pic....

I added a little swallow brooch from Ladybirdlikes, I have quite a collection of brooches and never wear them so I'm just going to start adding them on like buttons so I can no longer forget they exist!

I love the small stripes and am really pleased with how it turned out..

I pinked the inside seams and had planned to switch up my facing for some light weight cotton as Jane suggested in her top tips but as the fabirc wasnt as thick as I thought it might be it worked just fine...

Another bonus is that I still have just over a meter of fabric left for another project :)

Thanks again Jane and The Village Haberdashery!

  1. Oh wow it's perfect Zoe. The pattern is a great choice for the striped denim and as it's so lightweight you can wear it in the summer too, hoorah! LOVE the red bias binding in the last pic too! So glad to see that lovely denim put to good use! x

  2. This is lovely darling. Really nice work and fit is spot on!
