Me Made May 13....Planned makes....

Two days to go!
I'm getting quite excited about this MMM13 challenge, and since my pledge involves making 1 new peice a week too I thought I better get some planning on the go.
I've got a bit of a stash to get thorugh and some nice and simple (hopefully) patterns in mind.
First up is this cute heart print cotton...

I actually want to self draf a pattern copied from one of my favourite summer tops from H&M, I forgot to take a pic of it but its a simple vest top with a slight racer back. The front neckline is scooped and the back hem falls lower than the front....a little bit of a mullet top really. I think because this cotton is s little see through it might need a bit of underlining too.

Next is this super soft brushed cotton.....

I suppose its a bit like winceyette but that just makes me think of grannies nighties so we'll stick with brushed cotton. I've used it a couple of times to make a couple of cute teddies for some little people I know but theres loads left so I'm going to get stuck into making some new PJ bottoms. I think I'm going to use an old pair for the pattern as they dont really need any particular shaping...the baggier the better :)

I'd quite like to use this mad jungle cotton for something...

When you open it out its got pineapples and stuff on it, who doesnt love a pineapple. I'm thinking maybe a dirndle skirt?? Might leave this till last...
I'm going to squeeze another Sorbetto out using this cute bow print cotton...

But this time I might use some of the add on's from the Laurel additions which I mentioned here I likt the front bib or the keyhole maybe at the nape of the neck.

Thats four to keep to my pledge but along side I've also got to make some headway on a dres sto wear to my friends wedding in June. I bought this gorgeous Michael Miller Paris print in pink and I'm hoping that once it's in dress form it wont be quite so marshmallowy (thats all I can think when I hold up the sheet of fabric next to me)

I've seen loads of gorgeous dresses made with this in blog land. I'm going for Simplicity 2444, without sleeves, collar or bow, nice and simple with all of that print...

So theres the plans, lets wait and see what I actually manage!
Good luck to everyone else joining in, you've still got a day to go make your pledge over on Zoe's Blog

Colette Sorbetto....

It's nearly time for Me Made May guys!
Are you ready? Do you have enough to wear?? Being a newbie to this whole sewing your own clothes malarky, I've taken it easy and I have comitted myself to wearing me made 3 days a week so I think I can manage that but just to make sure I'm just adding a few bits to my wardrobe before next Wednesday (no panic stitching here...no no)

So I've got a couple of Colette Peony's under my belt, and after trawling some lovely sewing blogs I thought I'd have a go at the Colette Sorbetto. With it being a free download it would be rude not to!

Pattern printed and all stuck together...

And fabric chosen, this was in my free stash from work, such lovely colours and a nice light cotton perfect for summer (whenever that may be??).....

This is such an easy little pattern and it all came together within a couple of hours.

I love the front pleat detail.
I also used some fabric left over form my last Peony for another one for my mum :)
It's in the post mum!

I think you could add some little alterations to make a few different versions of this pretty top. In fact whilst perusing the Colette Pattern website I noticed the other free download for extra's to add to the Laurel...these could definitley be adapted for the Sorbetto.............more for the MMMay13 to do list!

Colette Peony #3....

After making my first Peony I just knew it wouldn't be the only one in my summer wardrobe.

This is number 3 (I haven't got around to taking photos of 2 so that'll come later :)
This weekend I went to a good friends hen party and was in need of something new to wear. I had picked up this pretty cotton from Fabric Land in Brighton and it was perfect. I underlined it with a black lawn cotton...mainly because I knew there would be a lot of photos being taken and a black cotton can have a habit of being a bit see through when a flash hits it (no undies snaps here!)

I've got so much better at inserting an invisible zip too (Thank you sewers of Youtube!)

I also put in some extra effort and bound my seams with binding....fancy!

I added a few alterations since the first peony. You can see in the top pic where I made the back darts deeper as the back gaped quite a bit. I also moved the horizontal front darts up an inch and made them a bit smaller and I turned the vertical darts out an inch at he top but kept the same waist markings. This made the top a much better fit and the bodice had much less of a 'pointy boob' area (technical term)

Yey the sun came out...shame the flowers in the garden haven't caught up yet...

Added neckline tucks...no more gaping there either :)

i'm really happy with this version, and I think after completing 3 I can move onto anther pattern for a bit...until it's time to make a Peony with sleeves that is :)

Easter Project.....Colette Peony......

This long weekend was the perfect time for me to get to grips with my newest pattern project, the lovely Colette Peony.

I have been trawling through blog posts to see how much a of a beginners pattern this really is. There are so many posts out there and so many gorgeous dresses have been made. Many mentioned that the bodice needed a lot of tweeking, some didnt mention this at all. I think it's best just to get on with patterns how they are and see how true to your body shape they are.

I chose a cotton from my stash and set to it.
The actual pattern book is so cute, like a little vintage book...

The instructions were really easy to follow, with little notes abut different stitches on each page.
I had this all cut and bodice all stitched on the first day, so gave it a rest for the evening.

By Easter Sunday I had  lovely new dress to wear :)
(Even with slippers)

And it has cute little sleeves!

I'd say that the bodice probably does need a slight tweak on the darts, they make the front a little bit 'booby'. But once I've got this adjustment sorted I'd say the rest is pretty much spot on. I can see my wardrobe becoming full of these dresses, especially with the longer sleeve version.
