A dotty Dixie....

Ooh I've already got stuck into some fabric I picked up at the swap.
First up, this cute polka dot stretch jersey. Perfect for another Dixie DIY Ballet dress. I love the first stripey version I made up and wear it loads so I know this is going to become a bit of a wardrobe staple.
This dress came together so quickly I didnt even get around to taking any  pics, so you just get the end result...

The same as my first dress, I added 2 inches to the bodice length and kept the sleeves short. This jersey is a really good weight so it drapes and swishes really nicely. Thank you to whoever donated it to the swap!

Betty getting involved...

I've been excited to start using my new labels too. For a while I've been putting in some labels that were actually from when I was at Junior school and my mum would sew them into my gym stuff, so cute! But time to move on, from now on all of my me mades will be tagged with these...

Summer sort out #2

This week I went along to the amazing Super+Super for a haberdashery swap night.

Everyone involved brought along bits and bobs from their home stash that they had started to think of as trash, but others might consider absolute treasure!

I went along with my work friend Lucy and its safe to say we had a HUGE stash to add to the mix...

Four massive bags filled with fabric swatches and rolls, trimmings, buttons and yarns. Once at super+super we could organise our wares out into bags and add a points value to each bag. 10 for fabrics and big bundles of wool down to 2 for little bags of trimmings etc. Whatever you brought along would mean points for you to use on 'buying' other peoples goodies. We ended up with 130 points between us!

Once the tables were full we had a chance to have a nose at what was there before it was time to get stuck in and grab all the bags you had your eye on. This wasn't as traumatic as I thought it might be and everyone was really civilised and actually all went for different bags...no elbows necessary.

Amongst others I bagged this bunch of jersey knits...

I cant wait to start turning these into dresses and tops. I just picked up the Grainline Studio Hemlock pattern (it's free go get it!) and i'm thinking those little bows would be perfect.

I was so pleased to get rid of some of my stash that I was sick of the sight of and it was so nice to see people picking up those bundles. I know I've totally filled the gap the stash busting made but I have come away with fabrics that I'm actually going to use....and they were free!!

Quilt complete....

Sewing machine disaster has struck....my bobbin winder wont erm...wind! It wont grip to the wheel so it wont spin. I'm going to try and do a lot of googling and fix it myself, I don't fancy paying out £60 at the mo. (any ideas??)
So to finish this project I had to do a load of hand winding on my bobbins.....yawn!

Anyways, the first one I did obvs wasn't tight enough and my machine had a hissy fit...

After I sorted that massive mess out it went fine. I got my binding on all edges...

and tada!!...

I made a quilt! I'm pretty chuffed with this, it's by no means perfect (at all) lets call it shabby chic or rustic (thanks Jen!) The squares don't match up, the criss cross stitching is a bit wonky, but its all soft and snuggly and will be a perfect cosy blanket for Sunday film watching so all is forgiven. It also has this awesome HUGE strawberry on the back...

LOVE!

I won't be making another quilt, but I'm glad I gave this one a go. It was perfect for stash busting.

Quilt progress....

Well it's coming along quite nicely...remember all of those squares? They've all been sewn together (a bit wonky but I'm going with 'charming') and backed with fleece and another layer of cotton.
Then came the loooong stripes of masking tape to make sure I got my stitching in the best straight lines I could manage!
And then came the looooong stitching.
This is a right kerfuffle, theres loads of fabric to roll up and get under the machine elbow and another load on your lap, but at least it's just straight stitching. luckily the fleece isnt too thick either so theres been no nasty machine tantrums  (yet)
I should have all the stitching done in another day or two...then its binding edges and Ta Da! (fingers crossed)

Summer sort out #1

August is here already! At the risk of sounding like my nan, it'll soon be Christmas!
Well not really but I feel like I should really start prepping for those Christmas craft fairs now. I've said this for the past two years and carried on saying it until around November 30th before doing anything about it. This year will be different!
I'm in the mood for a proper sort out too so August is now my month to sort, tidy, organise, and prep. No buying more patterns to add to the list and no buying more fabric to stack up.....blimey I am dying to buy some new fabric!
My main aim is to shift this little lot...

I've used most of them for dresses, skirts and tops. These are left overs really. Many of them have also been used for bows (and can be found here....ahem) To be honest, as pretty as most of them are I'm getting a bit sick of the sight of them.
Theres also a whole bag full of smaller pieces too....

Theres also a whole shelf full of felts, which will be used for Christmas stall goodies (nearly time for those Gmen to come out to play again) and second hand cotton sheets which are great for making dress mock ups and linings, but they could still do with a bit of a sort out.

So the plan for this little lot is to start snipping. Any that havent been Betty Bowed yet will be cut to size so I have a pile of to do's to add to the shop.
My other plan is to have a go at a quilt. I saw a lovely little post on Miss P's blog where she made up a little baby quilt, and its so gorgeous it inspired me to give it a go.
I've got a lot of fabric in blues, white and red so again I got snip, snip, snipping...

This is the general layout of the squares. I have some fleece and a good cotton sheet for backing in the stash too so this will use up loads...I'll come back to this once I start to actually sew it all together.

So this is the start of my August sort out plan...lets see how stage one goes.....
