Deer and Doe; Pavot....

Another from my autumn pattern haul; the cute Pavot Jacket from Deer and Doe.
I don't know what I was thinking buying a pattern for a coat. How the hell am I going to make that?!

Well actually this pattern was great. The instructions are really simple and clear and it comes together really easily with no room for 'what way round does that go?!' or 'how the hell does that fit there?!' It was actually really similar to a dress pattern, in a' construct the bodice and attach to the skirt' kind of way.

I used a cotton twill that I picked up on ebay for around a fiver. I went for black so if it turned out really bad I wouldn't have been too upset about ruining some amazing print or coloured beauty.

To add a bit of interest, I added these really cute polka dot buttons. It's got buttons! Which means I had to do real life button holes which, not having a machine with a button hole setting, I was dreading, until I actually did them and they're really not that bad.  Then I went a bit mad on the lining.....

See that bit of pink? Well theres actually quite a lot of pink...

And purple, and gold, and madness....Get your sunnies out! I picked up this cotton lawn at the swap and I was actually thinking of using it for my Belladone. My friend Lucy thought it was hideous and actually after having another look at it it's probably slightly too mental for a whole dress, but perfect for a flash of lining! I also used pink and black binding to finish all of the internal edges.

I am so pleased with this jacket. I made a jacket!! And I'll be making another for next spring I think, maybe in navy, or green....or pink?!
I was cautious with the sizing and it's come out a little roomy but that's good for winter, I can fit in a few more layers when the chill hits. I'd go down a size all over but the length is perfect. Typically the sun is out this week so I'll have ato wait a few more to start wearing this, but that's just fine, you stay as long as you like Mr Sunshine :)

I've finished the first piece from my autumn pattern haul, it's the cute Miette pattern from Tilly.

I used a lovely denim which I managed to score for free :) (big smiles all round)

This pattern came together really quickly. The instructions, and sew along on Tilly's blog, are super clear and straight forward. The only difficult bit was turning that waist tie round the right way due to the thickness of the denim....oooh sore fingers :( I love the fit and the fact the ties make a huge front bow.....surprise!

I love this skirt, it's going to get so much wear and I can already see a red one and possibly a navy polka dot one in my wardrobes future (you can never have too many spots)

And yes, I'm wearing tights! i tried to put it off for as long as possible but this weekend was pretty chilly, so thats it they're out now, I don't see any more sunshine beach days ahead so I might as well....

We Made This; Shop Girl.....

Yesterday was the day of the We Made This market in Brighton. The weather wasn't too great but there were lots of lovely customers in town....

The Hello Betty Bow was choca with lots of lovely new bows, and luckily I had much depleted stock by the end of the day. I haven't had a stall since last Christmas so it was great to get back into the swing of stall holding again and now I'm really excited to get making for Christmas!

Autumn pattern haul...

I've been naughty and treated myself to a few new patterns this month...well I'm going to need some more 'autumn appropriate' clothing soon!
First up I finally got around to a spot of shopping from Deer and Doe. I've been coveting the Belladone dress for ages (there it is...lingering on the stitch list) so I jumped in and thought, well while I'm paying for overseas postage and all I might as well add this cute Pavot Jacket too...

They were delivered so quickly and the pattern packs are so pretty. I've already cut up the Belladone to size and have some faric from the stash shop which will be perfect.

Next I went in for Simplicity 1873. I've seen this around the internet quite a lot, mostly when I've been spying on a pretty dress it's turned out to be a varation of this pattern. I love the shape and have been hunting for a dress with a round neckline rather than a boat neck. I think I'll be going for version A.

And lastly I went for an impulse buy and purchsed the Miette skirt PDF from Tilly. I love how simple it sounds (no zips or buttons...yey!) I managed to score some free denim, perfect for this pattern and I'll get some good wear out of it over the autumn and winter.

This should keep me busy for a while!
I have a tendancy to get a bit ahead of myself so I'm going to keep myself in check after this splurge...no more patterns are needed for a long time. I think with this bunch and a few Dixie Ballet dresses with longer sleeves, some Grainline Scout Tee's (oops forgot I bought that one too) and  Hemlock or two (That one was FREE!!) I should be pretty much sorted and not need to buy any more (famous last words)
