Jumpsuit of dreams....

2019 Make 2

Need: New clothes! Ha, well basically some new items of clothing that I actually want to wear. My wardrobe is really running a little low these days. I haven't done a huge amount of sewing for a while and I've also not really been drawn to wearing much of my old makes. I think my style has changed somewhat in the last couple of years. As much as I love a beautiful print I'm drawn to block colour and a different silhouette. I've loved the idea of jumpsuit for a while...

Pattern: I've been Pinning jumpsuit patterns and images for a while but hadn't come across one I really loved until I came across the Sierra Jumpsuit by Papercut patterns. I love the wrap waist and the cut of the trousers. However, the make seems a little time consuming and fiddly. I'm really after quick makes these days and I found the zip and all of the finishing inside off putting, I mean I'm sure it's really not that bad-just enough to make me feel tired right now! I nearly went for TATB Marigold as this looked like more of an easy wear and easy make, but it just wasn't quite what I was after and I didn't want to end up with something I didn't really want to wear. Finally this gem of a pattern graced my eyeballs on Instagram. Its the Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory and it's divine! There don't seem to be that many out in internet land just yet but I'm sure that'll soon change. It does just what it syas on the tin-easy to sew and easy to wear.

Fabric: This is a medium weight grey linen and surprisingly it didn't really wrinkle at all when I wore this all day. It's a good fabric for this time of year, not too chilly but not too stiff so still gives good shape. It sewed up a dream.

Notions: No zips. No buttons. Just a small amount of self made bias for the neckline. Told you it was easy.

Thoughts: Well, I'm so glad this pattern to turned up. I'm in love! Everything about it is simple and stress free and the finished garment is so great to wear. Comfy and smart. Probably my Saltspring for this year :)

Copy coat round 2.....

2019 Make 1

Need: A jacket for the days when it's decided not to be freezing cold any more...they're on their way right? Needs a hood, needs to be below the bum, needs pockets.

Pattern: Remember this? Well I likes what I likes so I set to cutting up that new/old version for a spanking new one.  I traced each piece and added on some SA. A couple of changes to this version. lengthen the sleeves to accommodate turn ups and a slight adjustment to the size and shape of the pockets.

Fabric: I've got a bit of a small stash going at the moment so chose some medium weight navy cotton drill. I also chose to fully line this version so bought some navy and white stripe cotton.

Notions: I snaffled the toggles from the old version to use again on the waist cincher and used some lacing and petersham ribbon from my stash for the waistband and tie.  I also happened to have an extra long zip in the stash too.

Thoughts: So happy with this make, and to actually be making's been bloody ages! It was quite a challenge to get back into, starting with a pattern with no instructions and all, but it got my making brain back in use and this actually made up pretty smoothly. It's blooming freezing today but I'm sure I'll be getting a good amount of wear form this in the coming months.
